Frances Short Pond suffered a fish kill due to low dissolved oxygen caused by monsoonal runoff through the Pipeline fire scar on 7/19/22 that flushed ash, sediment, and debris into the pond. As a result, Frances Short Pond will likely not be stocked for the remainder of the year. If conditions are suitable, stocking may resume spring 2023. The limit for bass is two (minimum size 13 inches), the limit for channel catfish is four, and the limit for sunfish is 5. Surface water temperature and an assessment of water temperature and D.O. profile at varying depths were conducted on 7/18/2022:
Surface: temperature 84 F, pH 7.77, D.O. 0.53.
1 meter: temperature 70 F, D.O. 0.05
2 meters: temperature 68 F, D.O. 0.05
3 meters: temperature 66 F, D.O. 0.05
