Increases the daily limit of hatchery adult coho on the Cowlitz River

Website
Action: Increases the daily limit for hatchery adult coho salmon.
Effective dates Oct. 15 through Dec. 31, 2022.
Species affected: Hatchery coho salmon.
Location: Cowlitz River, from the mouth to the fishing boundary signs below the Barrer Dam.
Rule: Salmon: Daily limit 6; up to 4 adults may be retained. Min. size 12". Release all salmon other than hatchery coho.
Reason for action: Coho salmon returns to the Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery are projected to exceed broodstock collection goals for the Cowlitz Hatchery programs. Modifying coho fisheries will provide additional fishing opportunities while still meeting program needs and upstream reintroduction goals.
Additional information:
All other permanent rules published in the 2022-2023 Sport Fishing Rules pamphlet remain in effect. The fishing boundary signs will remain at the 400-ft. mark below the Barrier Dam.
Anglers can be notified of in-season rule changes as they are announced by signing up for WDFW Regulation Updates at wdfw.wa.gov/about/lists.
Information contact: Josua Holowatz, District Fish Biologist, (360) 906-6771.
