Action: Opens chum salmon retention
Effective date: Immediately through Dec. 31, 2022
Species affected: Chum salmon
Location: Marine Area 11, except Commencement Bay
Rules:
- Immediately through Oct. 31 – Salmon daily limit 2. No minimum size. Release Chinook salmon.
- Nov. 1 through Dec. 31 – Salmon open Sundays through Wednesdays only. Daily limit 2. Up to 1 Chinook salmon may be retained. Chinook minimum size 22". Release coho salmon and wild Chinook salmon.
Reason for action: The in-season estimate of chum salmon returns to Puget Sound indicate that there are sufficient returning numbers to allow for recreational harvest. Chum salmon will be included as part of the daily limit for salmon in Marine Area 11.
Additional Information: Salmon fishing is closed Thursday through Saturday each week beginning Nov. 1.
Commencement Bay remains under permanent rules listed in the 2022/23 rules pamphlet. Commencement Bay is defined as the waters east of a line bearing 215° true (195°30' magnetic) from the Cliff House Restaurant on north shore (approximate position 47°17.85'N, 122°25.90'W) through Sperry Ocean Dock (approximate position 47°16.43'N, 122°27.37'W) remains closed to chum salmon retention.
Year-round piers listed in the 2022/23 rules pamphlet remain open daily, chum salmon may be retained as part of the salmon daily limit through Dec. 31.
