Fish are moving with the fresh rains that have been coming. Winter steelhead are likely to start showing up in the lower sections of the system.

Anglers are encouraged to submit steelhead snouts in barrels stationed at many boat ramps throughout the Umpqua drainage, or at the ODFW office in Roseburg. These snouts being used in a study to determine the best smolt release strategy to optimize angling opportunities while maintaining a healthy fishery. Anglers who submit snouts may be entered into monthly drawings for gift cards to Sportsman’s Warehouse. The mainstem is under permanent regulations for Chinook in 2022, which means anglers may retain up to two salmon per day which both could be wild. The wild coho fishery expired on Oct. 15th.
