Lower Lake Mary - The day use area is closed for the winter season. Reminder, the daily bag limit is 4 trout per day and 4 channel catfish per day. Northern pike are unlimited, but must be immediately killed or released. Only boats with a single 10-horsepower motor (or less) or a single electric motor are allowed on Lower Lake Mary. Despite the cold weather, fishing remains good for rainbow trout. Small lures (inline spinners such as Joe’s flies), flies (#10 bead head Simi-seal Leech in black, wine and olive, #14-18 Zebra Midge, Soft Hackles, Elk Hair Caddis, and #12 Prince
Nymph), and bait (PowerBit and worms) are all working well. Midges have been hatching out in droves on warm days, creating a fun dry dropper fishing opportunity. Northern pike have been active, especially in the afternoons as the lake warms.
Upper Lake Mary - Statewide limits apply for the fish species in Upper Lake Mary; check your regulations (page 6). Walleye and northern pike may be starting to stage at the inflows into the lake. The Newman Canyon inflow has been running well from snow melt since March 20. Inflow areas are good places to target northern pike and walleye in the spring as they congregate to spawn. Newman Canyon peaked at 238 cfs at 7:15 p.m. on 3/21/2024 with the most recent reading of 69.8 cfs on 3/25/2024 at 9 a.m.
