Tahoe sees a record brown

Although Lake Tahoe is known mainly for its large mackinaw [lake] trout caught in very deep water, the occasional oversize brown trout is fooled by skilled anglers. A new lake record for the species was caught this week, when angler Marvin Child nailed a 36-inch, 15 pound, 15 ounce brown while using a silver/black F11 Rapala Floater doused with Pautzke's Krill scent. Child was fishing with guide Mike Nielsen, and was trolling in 40 feet of water at Rubicon Point off Tahoe's west shore when the big fish hit.

4-27-2011Both trout and crappie aficionados had plenty to smile about at Irvine Lake this week, reported Jimmy Getty at the Pro Shop. "The trout fishing perked back up this week, probably due to the cooler than average temperatures", observed Getty. On the American River, salmon fishing will be allowed from Nimbus Dam to the Hazel Avenue bridge, from July 16 through Dec. 31. The Klamath River will be open for fall-run Chinook salmon from Aug. 15 through Dec. 31, with a daily bag limit of three Chinook salmon, of which no more than two may be more than 22 inches in length.
